November 25, Hangzhou – The award ceremony for the inaugural China (Xiaoshan) Biopharmaceutical Industry High-Value Patent Cultivation Competition (the "China Biopharmaceutical Patent Competition") was held today. Following a standout performance in the semi-finals and final, Westlake Pharma's project—a first-in-class small-molecule drug—was awarded the Third Prize.

This competition is the first intellectual property event in China specifically focused on the biopharmaceutical industry. The event attracted a total of 209 projects from 23 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions across China, as well as from overseas, with 16 projects advancing to the final round.

Wu Qi, Deputy Director of R&D, Zhang Ruojian, Head of Intellectual Property, and Cai Yiran, Assistant to the General Manager, represented Westlake Pharma in the competition. During the innovation roadshow segment, Zhang Ruojian presented the company's first novel drug to the judges and audience, providing a detailed explanation of the drug's patent value, its innovative R&D model, and the comprehensive patent cultivation system behind it. The drug features a novel scaffold structure, demonstrating high originality. Westlake Pharma’s R&D team advanced the product from initial discovery through clinical development.

Currently, the core patent for Mprosevir compound has been granted by the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA). The company has also filed core compound patent applications in other major markets worldwide. The company operates a scientific patent cultivation system, ensuring a rational and comprehensive patent portfolio.

The China Biopharmaceutical Patent Competition is the nation's first high-value patent cultivation competition for a specific industry. It is supported by the Intellectual Property Development and Research Center of the CNIPA, the China Association for Medical Devices Industry, the China Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Pharmaceutical IP Research Committee of the Chinese Pharmaceutical Association, and the Pharmaceutical Committee of the China Patent Protection Association. The event was co-hosted by the Xiaoshan District Government, the Hangzhou Municipal Administration for Market Regulation (Intellectual Property Office), the Zhejiang Intellectual Property Association, and the Intellectual Property Publishing House.

A scientific patent cultivation system empowers innovative R&D, enabling enterprises and research institutions to better commercialize and market high-quality research outcomes. It serves as an institutional guarantee for the sustained, high-quality development of technology enterprises and research institutions.

This award represents a strong endorsement from industry experts of Westlake Pharma 's patent value and its patent cultivation system. Under the safeguard of its patent framework, Westlake Pharma will continue to focus on the R&D of first-in-class drugs, remaining committed to doing "the hard but right things."
